Silent Regattas

At the turn of the 20th century, John S. Johnston captured fleeting moments of grace, ambition, and craftsmanship on the open water. His yachts, frozen in glass plate negatives over a century ago, reveal a world where wind, wood, and human ingenuity defined the horizon.

Silent Regattas – 1900 is a curated series of these historic photographs, meticulously digitally restored to honor the original vision while bringing the images into striking contemporary clarity. Each print is a dialogue between past and present: a tribute to the elegance of maritime tradition and the enduring poetry of the sea.

Presented in limited edition, each photograph is printed on archival fine art paper, signed, and numbered to preserve its uniqueness. This series invites the viewer not only to witness history, but to feel it—to experience the serene power and subtle drama of yachts that once sailed the waters of a bygone era.

Through this work, I seek to bridge history and artistry, restoring not just images but the imagination, offering collectors a tangible connection to a world where craftsmanship met the infinite horizon.

Each print in Silent Regattas – 1900 is part of a limited edition of 25.
